Our Lady of the Lakes CYO 7/8 Baseball avenged an earlier loss this season by beating undefeated St. Hugo 12-7 on Thursday night. In the bottom of the first, Lakes first four hitters reached base and scored, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after one inning. Winning pitcher Nick Blose struck out 3 batters in his two innings of work. William Burton, Holtie Ware and Ryan Robak all pitched effectively, limiting St. Hugo to 3 hits over the remaining 3 innings. With Lakes leading 8-3, a Blose two run double followed by a Ware triple increased the Laker lead to 12-3. In the top of the 5th inning, St. Hugo scored 4 unearned runs to close out the scoring.
Coach Blose commented after the game, “It was good to see the bats come alive and all of our batters were very patient at the plate. We need to tighten up our defense to avoid giving teams extra outs. If they play smart Laker baseball on Saturday, the boys have a chance to achieve the goal set forth at the beginning of the season: make the playoffs.”
Lakes close out the regular season this Saturday with a home doubleheader against Royal Oak Shrine beginning at Noon.
