On Tuesday, March 1, a number of our Middle School students and parents took part in the “March Into Literacy” at the Waterford Township Public Library. The Teen Librarian, Ms. Mary Rice, provided our students and parents with information on how to navigate the library’s card catalog and web page. Our students were also shown how to navigate the MeL (Michigan Electronic Library) website so they could learn and utilize this vast database for their future research projects.

After learning about these two databases, our Middle schoolers went on a tour of the library. The tour began in the periodical room, where students were shown all the different types of periodicals available to read in-house and how to check them out of the library. They then moved on to the Children’s Services where they were shown how items at their age cross over from Juvenile into the Teen section. Ms. Rice gave the students a wonderful overview of our local Public library and all the resources available to them…for FREE!
We look forward to our next “March Into Literacy” evenings coming up later this month:
There is so much more to learn! Please encourage your students to take part in these upcoming events. Sidney Sheldon once said, “Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve.”
Thank you, Waterford Township Public Library and Ms. Rice for inspiring our students!
