It didn’t start pretty for the Our Lady of the Lakes 7/8 CYO Football team, but a second half rally was just enough to beat their rivals, Notre Dame Marist Academy. It was an intense game with an intense crowd under the bright lights on Saturday night.
Trailing 6 – 0 at the midway point of the game, the boys played Laker football in the second half, outscoring Marist 16 – 6. TD runs by Robert Hoffman and Jackson Pett, and clutch kicking by Carter Luptowski, were the catalysts in the 16-12 win. Head coach Chris Mersino commented, “To look at it positively, we got the win, and it’s always nice to beat Marist. To be realistic, we are very lucky to be leaving Pontiac with this win. And to be optimistic, we will learn from this going forward. Jackson Pett and Leo Wilson put this offense on their shoulders and ran us to victory. On defense, Jack Romkema was clutch all night – a very smart football player.”
The Lakers play next against Our Lady of Refuge at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s at 4:00 p.m. this Saturday, September 14, in what is lining up to be a very important conference game. Please come out and support the Lakers on their “Run to Ford Field”!
