Emily Hein is making a move from Cincinnati, Ohio, where she taught 8th grade English and Reading for the past five years. In addition to working with 8th graders in the classroom, she also co-directed and choreographed the 8th grade musical, which helped her form an even stronger relationship with her students. While Emily cherished her time teaching in her hometown, her husband’s orthopedic surgery residency brought them to Michigan. When Emily found out that she would be moving away from home, her students were the ones who made her see the move as an adventure and not as the scary, uncomfortable life change that she thought it would be.
Emily attended Catholic grade school, high school, and college. It has always been important to her to spend her academic career and now teaching career in a faith-filled community. “I love that a Catholic School embraces all its members, focusing not only on top notch academics but also, most importantly, on creating disciples of Christ. I look forward to sharing my faith with my students as we learn and grow together”, says Emily.
One of Emily’s earliest memories is sitting in church watching her mom lead 40 junior high students in the playing and singing of worship music. Throughout her entire life, she has watched her mother spark a love of faith and a love of music in countless students in her role as music minister and music teacher. Her love for her craft and her passion to share it with the world has always been Emily’s biggest inspiration. She has spent the past five years trying to do just that—share her love for English, Reading, and Musical Theater while teaching 8th grade just as her mother has done.
“There’s just something so special about junior high students and the community we get to create together in the classroom. I am excited to build strong relationships with my new students”, says Emily. She is thrilled to start this new adventure!
