This past Sunday, 25 graduating seniors were transformed into the newest alumni of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School. The parish community celebrated the Class of 2019 with a Baccalaureate Mass at 12:30 p.m. followed by the formal commencement.
As Fr. Scott said during his homily, “This class has so much potential. Your potential is what makes you extraordinary.” These hard working students have been accepted to 23 different universities and earned almost a million dollars in scholarships.
Some students will continue their education close to home in Oakland County, while others travel to Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Washington D.C., and even Sydney, Australia!
Our Lady of the Lakes is a family. Valedictorian, Natalie Koenig, remarked “I have learned family doesn’t always have to be related.” She reminisced, “ We have learned how to build each other up and push each other to be better. You will always have 24 people to remind you how great you are.”
“We all grew up together and that’s what makes leaving so sad,” added Gabrielle Hysni, salutatorian, in her address.
We wish our graduates much success in the future and hope they remember the words of Fr. Scott, “I want you to go forth and do great things. And when you go on to college, I want you to know that there’s a home here.” We hope you come home often, and share your future accomplishments with your Laker family.
