Erika Denver, a life-long parish member at Our Lady of the Lakes, is transitioning to a full-time position at Protect Life Michigan (PLM) where she will make pro-life activism her career. Working there since last July as the creative assistant, Erika took a leap of faith and decided to accept a job promotion to lead the organization as the Creative Director. PLM is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that exists to prepare young leaders in the fight against abortion. With strategic, passionate, and professional measures, PLM focuses on high school/college students and young professionals as the driving factor in keeping the pro-life generation alive.
As a recent graduate from Wayne State University, Erika did not know her future would end up being in pro-life activism. “After completing my internship at a corporate position last year, I felt the need to utilize my skills in a mission-focused organization. I wanted to be a part of an environment where I could use my voice and stand up for things that mattered,” Erika said. Soon came the opportunity with PLM where she has been able to merge both of her passions: public relations and pro-life activism.
Erika is now on the journey of support-raising to make this her full-time career. Support raising is all about creating a team of supporters who are passionate about the same mission, eager to help the ones who can do the work full-time. “It’s a vertical relationship with God between the ministry worker (Erika) and the potential supporter (you). I have asked for provision in the Lord on where my efforts should be made, I then invite potential supporters to invest into the mission, while they also ask the Lord where to invest,” Erika says. “This is not only my journey and mission to accomplish, but the supporter’s mission and spiritual journey as well.”
