Our Lady of the Lakes CYO 7/8 Baseball split their doubleheader against Marist on this past Wednesday. Lakes lost the first game 2-1, as Marist score single runs in the 6th and 7th innings to capture the victory. Nick Blose pitched five shutout innings striking out eight batters.
In the nightcap, Lakes overcame an early 6-2 deficit to tie the game in the 4th inning. Marist would reclaim the lead in both the 5th and 6th innings. In the bottom of the 6th Lakes scored four times to take the lead 12-9. Marist scored two runs in the top of the 7th to make the score 12-11. With the tying run on second base, winning pitcher Holtie Ware induced a popup to 2nd baseman Nick Blose, who threw it to shortstop Ryan Robak for a stunning game ending double play. With the win Lakes improved to 1-2 on the season.
Coach Blose commented after the game, “We had a tough one run loss in our first game of the season last week to a team that was 7-0. Marist’s pitcher in game one was very talented and we struggled against him. We had a difficult time extending any at bats to get his pitch count up. In game two I was so proud how the boys continued to battle all evening. Each time Marist reclaimed the lead, our boys never gave up and got on base and scored. It was an exciting game that I doubt the boys will soon forgot”.
Lakes plays next in a doubleheader vs St. Regis this Saturday, May 11 at noon at home.
