Junior Olivia Hankey is no stranger to breaking records. In track and field, she already owned the long jump, 100/110 Hurdle and 4×800 relays school records. On Saturday, May 13th, two more Our Lady of the Lakes school records fell to Hankey in Track & Field competitions at the Warrior Invitational. Olivia set new marks for the 300m Hurdles and the 800m run. In the 300m Hurdles, she broke a 17-year-old record (previous time of 50.00 seconds set in 2000) with a time of 48.52 seconds. She then won the 800m run while setting a new school record time of 2:28.70 besting former All-state performer Tessa Fonari’s record by .6 seconds.
The new records now give her five total which is the most in Lakers Track and Field History. Hankey is evaluating several opportunities at the next level and wants to compete collegiately as a heptathlon athlete. Amazingly, Hankey also bats lead-off and plays shortstop for the CHSL playoff bound Laker’s softball team and is tied for the team’s Home Run lead. The Track team competes at the MHSAA regionals this Saturday at 8 a.m.
