The Our Lady of the Lakes CYO 7/8 football team braved the oppressive heat and hostile crowd in Macomb to roll over St Peter, 28 – 0.
The Lakers offense was propelled by three rushing TD’s (1 by Elijah Durham and 2 by Jackson Pett) and a William Burton to Brody Kosin TD pass.
The Laker defense slammed the door shut again, holding St. Peter to two first downs, zero completed passes, and 5 sacks. “It was a total team effort, on offense, defense and special teams,” said Head Coach Chris Mersino. “Coaches Lancaster and Wilson had a great game plan, and the Wyrembelski brothers, Liam Sutherland, Joey Staelgrave, and Keagan Collins rose to the challenge as starters this week. As a coaching staff, we challenged Cam Chinavare to step his game up and he answered the challenge with a strong game.”
“We have a very big game Friday night – for all the marbles. That is what this is all about. Very exciting” said Mersino. “I’m already getting butterflies.”
The Lakers are 5 – 0 and take on 5 – 0 St. Anne at Wisner Stadium this Friday night, where the three CYO games are a kickoff to homecoming weekend football at OLL. The winner of this game will be conference champions and will earn top seed in the playoffs which begin next week. Please come out and support the boys on their “Run to Ford Field”.
