Our Lady of The Lakes CYO 5/6 Football wrapped up an undefeated season with a 22-0 victory over St. Charles Monroe on Saturday. Lakes finished the season 7-0 and ended the season with 6 straight shutouts. On the season, Lakes outscored their opponents 179-6.
After a scoreless first quarter, Lakes found the end zone on a Geno Seets 47 yard touchdown pass to Gavin Bond. Chris York’s conversion staked Lakes to an 8-0 lead. Later in the 2nd quarter, Alex Asai hauled in a key 3rd down pass to keep a Lakes drive going, which culminated in a Brody Denver 4 yard touchdown run. Chris York’s conversion increased the Laker lead to 16-0 at the half.
The Lakes defense recovered two second half fumbles (Latane Ware and Luke Jasinski) and held St. Charles to 3 first downs on the afternoon. A Brody Denver 40 yard touchdown closed out the scoring.
Coach Briolat commented after the game, “Extremely proud of how well all of the boys played this season. We had such a great group of boys who encouraged each other all season. The support we received from our parents this year was fantastic. Our boys loved hearing those cowbells. To go undefeated and end the season with 6 straight shutouts is an incredible accomplishment. Coach Blose had our defense playing tough Laker football all season. I’m highly confident that this team ranks right up there with the best 5/6 teams in Lakes CYO history. Our coaches did a great job instructing our boys and preparing them for each game. On October 19th the team will be acknowledged at Ford Field as Division Champions and receive our award, which was the goal all season.”
For Lakes students Alex Asai, Jack Blose, Matthew Nguyen, Zac Staelgraeve and Latane Ware this marks their third Division Championship team that they have played on in their 4 years of CYO football at Lakes.
